RETURN, EXCHANGE & REPLACEMENT POLICIES ON AN ORDER YOU HAVE RECEIVED
Always call or email me first before sending back an item for exchange or return.
PHYSICAL ITEMS: RETURNS & EXCHANGES
What physical items are eligible for returns and exchanges?
I will do whatever I can to address damage to items that appear to have been shipped in a damaged condition or detects in material or workmanship when you have purchased new physical items either directly from me or from another vendor that I allow to sell my books. If you did purchase directly from me, I should have a record of it in my system. The only exception might be if you got the items from me at a conference. We can talk about that if that is the case.
If you did not purchase new items directly from me, I will need to see documentation verifying the date and items purchased such as a photocopy of a receipt or an email receipt from an online order showing the new items that were purchased and the retail vendor where you placed the order.
Books purchased second-hand are NOT eligible for return or exchange
Please note that you buy used books at your own risk, regardless of the problem you discover. When you purchase a used book, neither you nor I have any way of knowing if the book had a binding problem beforehand and, if so, when it started. If the book has pagination defects or other print-related issues, the seller may have known that when they sold it. I cannot be sure that the person didn't already exchange their book with me and then put it on the used book market. Of course, I am hoping that no one would knowingly sell a defective book, but again, neither of us have any way of knowing its history. Plus, when you buy a used book, I do not make any money at all on that sale in the first place and can therefore not afford to be responsible for its condition after purchase.
If you ordered directly from me and were accidentally shipped the wrong product:
Notify the office and the correct product will be sent to you. If the mistake was mine, there will be no additional shipping charges and I will give you a small credit to pay for the postage for returning the item you were mistakenly sent. If the mistake was yours (that is, you ordered the wrong thing), you will need to return the wrong item at your expense and pay the actual cost of shipping plus a handling charge to have the correct item shipped to you. All items must be returned in new condition.
Defective bindings & pagination defects
It is a printing fact-of-life that occasionally a defective book slips into circulation. Unfortunately, about 10% of the first printing (1995) of Holistic Midwifery included books with bad bindings.
Other problems may include missing, misplaced, blank, inverted or duplicated pages. Some books have had all of these problems. A very few of the revised edition of Holistic Midwifery and one or two copies of Diagnostic Tests have turned up defective as well. Because of the way reference books are used, some midwives have had a book for a while, but not noted page defects until they went to look something up, only to discover pagination problems. Whatever the difficulty, please rest assured that we will exchange your defective item for a new one, regardless of when you bought the book.
Any defects in material or workmanship should be reported as soon as they are noted. Truly defective bindings due to manufacturing defects will start to be apparent soon after purchase. You should notify me as soon as you notice a problem.
Please be aware that any book, especially those that are soft cover, if used heavily enough, will eventually show wear and start to fall apart. Therefore, please report only those binding problems that you believe to be true defects in material or workmanship, not those resulting from heavy, long-term use.
Should I return a defective or damaged printed item?
As a general policy, you will not be required to return defective printed items to me unless it is newly in print, in that case I will let you know when you call how to proceed. Replacement of defective printed items is on the honor system. Returning heavy books costs money and I must then dispose of the books, since my printer, once they are aware of the problem, does not require repeated samples to inspect for defects.
To exchange a defective printed item: If you are returning Holistic Midwifery, Volume I, check the lower left hand corner of the back cover. Is there a bar code there? Please let me know if there is (the lack of a bar code indicates that this is the first printing of Holistic Midwifery). Send me your name, shipping address, phone number, email address, book title, and the bar code status if you are reporting on Holistic Midwifery, Vol 1 and the defects you have found. I will contact you regarding a replacement.
Wholesale returns & exchanges: All of the above policies also apply to wholesale orders. Please note that overstock returns are not accepted.
