RETURN, EXCHANGE & REPLACEMENT POLICIES
Always call or email me first before sending back an item for exchange or return.
PHYSICAL ITEMS: RETURNS & EXCHANGES
What physical items are eligible for returns and exchanges?
GENERAL RETURNS: Retail customers who shopped with Labrys Press who are dissatisfied with their purchase may return as new, unused items to me for a full refund. If a book you purchased from Labrys Press arrives damaged, I will happily exchange it for an undamaged copy at my expense. I will ask to to return the damaged one to me and reimburse you for the cost of media mail postage.
If you purchased your new book from another vendor and either of these issues comes up, contact them. Their return policies will apply.
RETURNS OF DEFECTIVE ITEMS PURCHASED NEW: When you purchase physical items either from me or another vendor, I will do whatever I can to address items purchased new that are discovered to have detects in material or workmanship. If you did purchase directly from me, I should have a record of the transaction in my system. The only exception might be if you got the items from me at a conference. We can talk about that if that is the case.
If you did not purchase new items directly from me, I will need to see documentation verifying the date and condition of the items purchased such as a photocopy of a receipt or an email receipt from an online order showing the new items that were purchased and the retail vendor with whom you placed the order.
Books purchased second-hand are NOT eligible for return or exchange.
Please note that you buy used books at your own risk, regardless of the problem you discover. When you purchase a used book, neither you nor I have any way of knowing if, for example, the book had a binding problem beforehand and, if so, when it started. If the book has pagination defects or other print-related issues, the seller may have known that when they sold it. I cannot be sure that the seller didn't already exchange their book with me or another vendor and then put a damaged or defective book up for sale. Of course, we all hope that no one would knowingly sell a defective book, but again, neither of us have any way of verifying its history. Plus, when you buy a used book, I do not make any money at all on that sale in the first place and therefore cannot afford to be responsible for its condition after it is purchased second-hand.
If you ordered directly from me and were accidentally shipped the wrong item:
Notify the office and the correct item will be sent to you as soon as possible. If the mistake was mine, there will be no additional shipping charges and I will give you a small credit to pay for the postage for returning the item you were mistakenly sent via media mail with the US post office. If the mistake was yours (that is, you ordered the wrong thing), you will need to return the incorrect item at your expense. I will cover the cost to have the correct item shipped to you. All returned items must be in new, undamaged and salable condition.
Defective bindings & pagination defects discovered in a book your purchased new
It is a printing fact-of-life that occasionally a defective book slips into circulation. Any defects in material or workmanship should be reported as soon as they are noted.
Pagination problems may include missing, misplaced, blank, inverted, miss-bound (i.e., pages are bound on the right margin and not the left), or duplicated pages. A very few of the revised edition of Holistic Midwifery and one or two copies of Diagnostic Tests and, so far, one copy of Healing Passage, 6th ed. have turned up with page defects. Some have had all these page problems. Because of the way reference books are used, some midwives have had a book for a while, but not noted page defects until they went to look something up, only to discover that the relevant page was missing. Whatever the pagination defect, please rest assured that I will exchange your defective item for a new one, regardless of when you bought the book as long as you can prove that you purchased it new.
Truly defective bindings due to manufacturing defects will become apparent soon after the book starts to be used. Please be aware that any book, especially those that are soft cover, if used heavily enough, will eventually show wear and start to fall apart. Therefore, please report only those binding problems that you truly believe to be due to defects in material or workmanship and not due to wear resulting from heavy, long-term use.
How will I be required to document the defects?
I will need to see photos of the defects. I will instruct you as to what to photograph depending on the defects you find (for example, open the book to where pages are missing and photograph both sides of the open book showing the gap in page numbers). If a binding is defective, photograph the defect to the best of your ability.
Should I return a defective or damaged printed item?
I will need to confer with the printer as to whether the book needs to be returned. If they need to see it, I will ask to you send it media mail directly to them and will reimburse you for the postage. If the printer does not wish to see it and since returning heavy books costs money and I must then dispose of the books, you will not be required to return it. As a rule, once my printer is aware of a problem, they do not require repeated samples to inspect for defects.
To exchange a defective printed item: Send me your name, shipping address, phone number, email address, book title, edition and the defects you have found. If you did not purchase it from me, send me a copy of your receipt. You can go ahead and send photos of the defects. If I need additional photos, I will let you know. I will contact you regarding a replacement. Do not discard the book until we can get the exchange sorted out.
Wholesale returns & exchanges: All of the above policies also apply to wholesale orders. Please note that overstock returns are not accepted.
