EXAMPLES OF TYPES & DEGREES OF BOOK DAMAGE
A variety of different kinds of damage are depicted below, categorized by type and severity. This is only a representative sample of typical types of damage. Sometimes books are actually defective. This may include pagination defects of all types (such as missing pages) or binding problems. Books with these types of issues are NOT intentionally sold and are not included in the damage category. If you receive a damaged book that also has defects, you will be entitled to a replacement.
Crunched corner with minor damage.
This shows minor edge damage with slight staining.
Crunched corners on both sides of spine. The uppermost one depicts moderate damage.
To the left we see severe damage in the form of a badly torn front cover in two places (which can easily be taped).
On the right, we see severe box cutter damage. This damage included a couple of pages, along with an underlying torn page.
(Torn areas have been elevated to show them more clearly, usually such areas lie flat.)
Crunched corners on both sides of the cover--moderate damage.
Moderate bumping & dog-earring. Bumping of outside corners like this can cause a varying number of underlying pages to become slightly bent as well.
